Question by Eric: Travel to Canada with a prior DUI conviction?
13 years ago, while living in the United Kingdom, I got a DUI. Dumbest, most bone-headed thing I’ve ever done but it is what it is. I have had a clean driving record since. Anyway, I am a Dutch citizen and have a Dutch passport. I also moved to the United States 10 years ago (I’m a permanent resident).
I’m looking at traveling to Canada and am wondering if I need to apply for “Rehabilitation”; or if I would get turned back by Canadian Immigration, or if indeed it would even show up?

Since 13 years have passed it’s likely this would be considered a case of “Deemed rehabilitation”(if indeed it did show up)…you don’t have to apply for this per se…you can just appear at the border and (if asked ) show the documents(if you still have them -relevant to the conviction)…or you can (free of charge) fill out a rehabilitation form(the same form that you would have used to apply for “Rehabilitation” you spoke of-which costs a bunch of money and can take a year to process)-only when you fill it out you check a different box .Info below:

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is a United States federal government research institute. Their mission is to lead the Nation in bringing the power of science to bear on drug abuse and addiction.
According to notes released by NIDA Director Dr. Alan I. Leshner in the September 2000 issue of Director’s Column:
“Remarkable research and technological advances in the past two decades have proved that brain disruption and damage play central roles in the consequences of drug abuse and addiction. Knowing the nature of a problem, of course, opens the way for systematic attempts to fix it. Thus, today, finding ways to restore normal brain function after it has been changed by drugs is a main goal of NIDA research.
[…]
Ultimately, researchers envision a two-stage process for helping restore drug abusers’ impaired abilities. Interventions will be used first to stop ongoing brain damage and repair damaged brain cells, and then to retrain the brain. The rationale for this approach is that repairing the brain first will restore lost mental resources and capacities that patients then can apply in further treatment.”

Have drug dealers stick a label with your website address on their baggies. 🙂
You will probably need to seek a online marketing professional, to help you with SEO ( Search Engine Optimization ) and you could also do PPC, Pay Per Click advertising, which is the ads on the sides of the search engines, And, when someone typed in a related topic like, “Find a drug rehab center” it would display your ad.
You could try drug rehab forums, and groups online, and advertise there as well.
Which, your website is a very broad, website, and many people seeking treatment, find a place locally in their phonebook. But, than again, there may be people out of state, or want to send their child or someone to an out of state rehab center that provides better treatment. So, your site may have potential.

Well, that’s an interesting subject.
You could also do a presentation on Oxycontin abuse, since it is so widespread and has led to major societal impacts, especially in some small towns. We tend to forget that people can get addicted to prescription drugs as well as “street” drugs – look at Rush Limbaugh.
Or, you could talk about the epidemic of cough syrup abuse and addiction that seems to be sweeping entire schools lately, though I fear you will find less evidence and news stories on this.
Good luck!

Question by Maricopa County: Do you feel sorry for this illegal or was justice served?
He was one of 107 Mexican men who had started out that morning in shackles at the York County Prison and had been placed by immigration officials on a chartered plane at Harrisburg International Airport for a flight to the border. The journey was part of a now daily exodus that has made the south-central region of Pennsylvania a critical hub in the federal government’s efforts to deport undocumented immigrants.
Now 37, Mr. Cruz had not been in his native country since crossing illegally more than two decades before. He was leaving behind his parents, siblings, a young daughter he hardly knew and a seven-year prison stint in Virginia that followed a 2002 night of binge drinking and a hit-and-run crash. He had no clothes except his brown prison jumpsuit and a pair of blue slippers.Mr. Cruz, who became a devout Christian during his time in prison, plans to continue his religious studies and spread the word of God as a Mennonite missionary in his homeland. When Mr. Cruz crossed the border as a teenager in the 1980s, it was “kind of easy,” he said last month while awaiting deportation. The United States had far fewer border patrol agents than it has today.
His parents were already living in Los Angles, and Mr. Cruz wanted to join them. Most of his four brothers and three sisters would make similar journeys.
After a decade living on the west coast, the family decided to move to Harrisonburg, Va., to get away from the growing dangers of gangs and crime in Los Angeles. In Virginia, Mr. Cruz found work in a poultry factory, where he put turkeys on hooks before they were slaughtered.
By then, Mr. Cruz’s older brother had developed a drinking problem. Mr. Cruz, a regular churchgoer, initially resisted such temptations. But he soon started drinking with his brother.
“It was just little by little,” he said. “Then I was an alcoholic.”
The pair also smoked marijuana, despite admonitions from their parents. Mr. Cruz attended rehabilitation programs, but he didn’t have any success until he left his family to live on his own in Phoenix.
There he met Rosario Mendoza, a devoted Christian who helped him recover from his addictions. She also persuaded him to reconcile with his parents and return to Virginia. Mr. Cruz brought Ms. Mendoza with him, and the couple had a daughter named Paula.
Mr. Cruz also reconnected with his old group of friends, and he again started drinking and using drugs.
In November 2002, an intoxicated Mr. Cruz tried to drive home after watching a boxing match. He struck a woman’s car and kept driving before crashing again. He woke up in the hospital with a broken shoulder and neck and chest injuries. He later learned that the woman in the car had been pregnant and suffered a miscarriage.
During his first night in prison, Mr. Cruz tried to hang himself with a sweater. Guards put him under suicide watch.
At the prison health clinic, a nurse gave him a Bible and told him, “I’ll be praying for you.”
Her words provided comfort. Mr. Cruz resolved to change. He pleaded guilty to criminal charges and accepted a 10-year prison sentence and the loss of his visa to stay in the United States, which his parents had helped him get a decade before.
At Green Rock Correctional Center in Chatham, Va., Mr. Cruz immersed himself in Christianity, attending Bible study and theology classes sponsored by Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University. He served as a translator at weekend services for other Latinos in the prison.

Sadly there is nothing you can do if she doesn’t want the help. You could always try those interventions but unless she is wanting to get better the most that will happen is she will get angry and disappear. Something will scare her into getting the help she needs it took my brother losing his wife to his dealer and then almost overdosing on that crap before he got himself clean. Even then we didnt trust him for almost two years after that.
