Oooh that is not good. They don’t want to give you grant money if you deal with illegal drugs (as you know). Um can you look into getting your record sealed? You say its been 10 years I think you can do it if you have a low felony record. I don’t know I think it changes from state to state. I know F4 &F5 can be sealed. Also you should looking in the Foundation Center and see if they can give you any information about grants for felons. I know they have them out there you just have to dig for them. It’s funny because a lot of places will hire a felon with a drug conviction but they won’t hire other types of felons. Oh well good luck.

Question by Shilajit: How to stop my friend from sniffing Dendrite (a glue consisting toluene and other intoxicants)?
Hey guys, I have a friend (Aged 24) who sniffs Dendrite every day. I know him almost 3 years now, and there hasn’t been a single day he didn’t do this thing. Sometimes he sniffs about 4-5 glue tubes a day. By now, he has become a junkie and he admits that he’s addicted. We’re all very concerned about his health as we know permanent brain damage is prevalent among users.
The most interesting part is this, he’s very well-educated and a very talented and struggling guitarist, an intellectual person I’d say, who’s interested in Classical/Jazz/Rock/Metal music and movies, unlike the usual abusers of this drug, who are mostly poor, homeless kids. He refuses to lay off of Dendrite for unknown reasons and we’re all pretty scared about this. Lately, I’ve been feeling his playing skills is lacking perfection. But that’s probably just me, and he isn’t really abnormal in any way and is quite a lovable person.
Rehab isn’t really an option, as the guy I’m talking about lives alone, away from his parents and they probably don’t know anything about this. When I ask him the reasons for sniffing glue, he just tells me that it’s the only thing that keeps his mind away from all the bullshit and depression and frustration, when the truth is, there isn’t really anything so frustrating. So probably he’s just making up excuses for sniffing more?
So, can anyone help me help him?

First of all he has to realise that he has this problem. Before that, there is not much you can do besides explaining what sniffing glue does to his body.

Question by The Curmudgeon: Can a recovered alcoholic ever have a drink again, even after 40 years of sobriety?
If someone is an alcoholic but has stopped drinking, can they safely have a drink after they’ve been clean for an extended period of time, say like 40 years? I’ve heard that a recovered alcoholic can never have another drink ever as the cravings will hit them just as bad as if they hadn’t stopped drinking.

Are there any studies out there on this subject?

Im a recovering meth addict and I have been through a couple years worth of behavior modification and addiction classes. One thing they teach you is there is no such thing as “Recovered” addicts or alcoholics, you are always recovering. It’s hard to understand if it’s not yourself, but addicts have a different wiring system in their brain. Maybe someone who has been sober for 40 years can have a drink or two and not pick it up again. But what that does is reinforces the behavior. The addict starts conditioning them self to believe that they are ok. They have handled a couple drinks maybe four or five times and nothing has happened, even they can start getting friends and family members to start believing its ok now. It is really dangerous. It sneeks right back up if they dont have the understanding to step away and look at the choices they are making and where they are leading. It happened to me. I would say to someone who has made it through 40 years, that they owe it to them self to go 40 more. And if its outside influence causing high risk thoughts about having a drink, seek support through friends or family and be open about their struggle. Hope I helped 🙂
