Question by Rin: I need an opinion on something serious?
I’m a sophmore in high school and i was caught by my parents buying pot. I have execptional grades (all b’s and a’s) and i’m on on honor roll in my school. Also i am a varsity xc runner. This has been the third time my parents have caught me. The first time they found it in my laundry at the start of freshman year about a week into starting to smoke. The second time 11 months later in the middle of August. Both times they have grounded me for a month (no phone, fb, hanging out with friends etc.)

Now my for my third offense my parents are sending me to a rehab center. It’s not a full on program where i am taken out of school and sent away. But it’s after school about 3-4 times a week for 2 hours. Now on top of this they are making me pay for this whole program. The reason they put me in this is because within the week i was ungrounded i was caught once again and they have concluded that i have an addiction to pot.

On top of putting me through a “substance abuse rehabilitation program” they are transferring me out of my highly ranked public school to put me in a Catholic school.

My argument to them is that i smoke pot once or twice a week which is maybe a bit over average but nothing extreme. And they know that. I also told them that it is not effecting my grades because freshmen year i had a 3.5 GPA, which isn’t outstanding but I think it is very good. I also show my parents respect, love them and spend time with them.

I would like to hear an opinion on my punishment.

Question by kieshyiah: Vicodin vs Codeine vs Percocet ..?
Which is more addictive? My friend was on Vicodin and was afraid he would get addicted, so the doctor switched him to Codeine. I always thought Codeine was more addictive? Would Percocet be a good alternative that would take care of the pain (Shoulder Impingement Syndrome) without the addiction and withdrawals? Any help would be appreciated?
I just found out its not ‘Codeine’ its Tylenol 3 with Codeine. Just to amend that.

Answer by gaston8291
Vicodin is hydrocodone and is a schedule 3 narcotic…it is addictive but always has a NSAIS in it like APAP, ibprofen or another over the counter pain drug, that is used to make sure people don’t abuse it (take 5 instead of one) but some still do..percocet is oxycodone a schedule 2 narcotic with APAP (acetaminophen) aka tylenol, Codeine is the base drug that they above two are used to manufacture….it is in the smae class schedule as oxycodone andthe schedules are used toi classify potential dangers of abuse…

These drugs taken properly can casue physical dependence meaningthe body would go through wthdrawal without it’s use that is the nature of opiates adn the doctor should properly ween someone off opiates..dependence differs from “addiction” addiction is the psychological urge to take more than needed or more the RUSH, BUZZ, etc instead of the pain management effects..and there is a luadry list of behaviors assocated with it…..

If he is concerned with opaite addiction, there is gabapentin or tramamdol which is less addicting and good for some types of pain..
Best of luck………

Question by Dahoss65: Drug differences?
What are the differences between…
1) Sedatives
2) Tranquilizers
3) Anesthetics

Best answer:

Answer by Grrr
Sedatives and tranquilizers have similar effects.

A sedative-hypnotic is a substance that depresses the central nervous system (CNS),[1] resulting in calmness, relaxation, reduction of anxiety, sleepiness, and slowed breathing, and possibly – at higher doses – slurred speech, staggering gait, poor judgment, and slow, uncertain reflexes. Doses of sedative-hypnotics when used as a hypnotic to induce sleep tend to be higher than those used to relieve anxiety.

Prescription sedatives and tranquilizers can cause euphoria. They also slow normal brain function, which may result in slurred speech, shallow breathing, sluggishness, fatigue, disorientation and lack of coordination or dilated pupils. During the first few days of taking a prescribed sedative or tranquilizer, a person usually feels sleepy and uncoordinated, but as the body becomes accustomed to the effects of the drug, these feelings begin to disappear. Higher doses cause impairment of memory, judgment and coordination, irritability, paranoid and suicidal ideation. Some people experience a paradoxical reaction to these drugs and can become agitated or aggressive. Using Prescription sedatives and tranquilizers with other substances – particularly alcohol – can slow breathing, or slow both the heart and respiration, and possibly lead to death.

Anesthesia, has traditionally meant the condition of having sensation (including the feeling of pain) blocked. This allows patients to undergo surgery and other procedures without the distress and pain they would otherwise experience. Another definition is a “reversible lack of awareness”, whether this is a total lack of awareness (e.g. a general anaesthestic) or a lack of awareness of a part of a the body such as a spinal anaesthetic or another nerve block would cause.
