Question by MomOf2: Suggestions from recovery alcoholics and spouses of alcoholics?
My husband is a recovering alcoholic of alomst 6 months now. \he’s not the type of alcoholic to drink everyday, he’s a benge drinker. This is the first time that he has been sober this long. Last summer I left him the last time he did it and he moved out of state and I stayed here with our daughter and eventually moved on. As time went by he begged me and begged me to come back to him but I just couldn’t. I didn’t want to live my life like that. Eventually about 6-7 months later he decided to come back here and see our daughter and talked me into bing with him. The last 6 months has been amazing and he is a totally changed person just these past 6 months. He’s never been like this and he did it all on his own, not AA, couseling, nothing. The only thing he did was his doctor put him on celexa to cope with his depression in which he takes one a day and says that it has been helping him. I do love him very much and want things to work and for him to stay sober, but the ratio of alcoholics staying sober is very low. I’m just scared, I love him but can’t do it again if he messes up. Can anybody relate, what can I do?? What about some suggestions from other alcoholics??

Just stay positive, avoid stresses and encourage a healthy lifestyle. You could be his support system. Also, smoking and other addictions should be avoided if not cut out because of the association between the two, but it sounds like he is doing great. I have known people who died from drinking themselves to death, so keep that in mind.

Question by Lori Odum: Cost of premiere keratin treatment service at a Hair Cuttery in Northern VA?
My friend had it done in Florida and it looks really good. It’s a hair straightener that lasts up to 3 months.

Answer by Sur La Mer
About $ 300.
I wouldn’t recommend them. There are many brands of hair straightening out there and they call them anyway they want to get your attention. Coco is another name brand. Some Japanese hair straightening processes can damage the hair and leave it flat and lifeless.
None is better than the other.

Keratin are not approved by the FDA. Visit their website & search for it in their web. If you’re thinking about the Brazilian treatment, there’s a danger about using formaldehyde, a chemical that causes cancer. The FDA does not restrict the use of that chemical in cosmetics.
A hairstylist in Portland, Or. is blowing a whistle on the treatment.
“A big red flag: About a month after she started using Brazilian Blowout on clients, Scrutton had the first nosebleed of her life.”

(Type it in if they moved the page. “After hairstylist becomes suspicious of Brazilian Blowout, tests find formaldehyde”.
Stylists and clients often wear gas masks or other protective equipment and still may feel the ill effects of this potentially fatal gas.
Many customers and stylists do not know that this Brazilian treatment often contains high concentrations of formaldehyde, a cancer-causing chemical.
Relaxers are for permanent, but they are damaging to hair.
Go to the FDA website & type in permanent or relaxers so you understand what are the side effects.

Here’s the newest news:
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently seized tens of thousands of bottles of “Rio” hair relaxer products after determining they can cause severe hair loss or turn hair green.

The FDA have warned consumers not to use “Rio Hair Naturalizer Systems,” a product imported from Brazil and sold through television infomercials by World Rio Corp. of Los Angeles.

The official complaints against hair straightening products range from serious hair breakage and hair damage to serious scalp burns that may require an emergency room visit.
Example of what one suffering severe hair loss after Japanese Hair Straightening from YA HAIR:
I got my hair rebonded back in March and have lost more than a third of it since then. Everytime I run my hands through my hair, I lose 7-10 strands on average!
In the shower I lose clumps after shampooing and conditioning.
Bald spots are showing up in my hair.
I used to have beautiful thick hair, ho can I get it back?
Another ex: I used to have very curly, beautiful hair..and then i got it chemically straightened..DONT DO IT! when it started growing out, it was mess and even more difficult to work with than before. and once it was completely grown out, my hair was no longer curly..it is now this aweful wavy mess, and only certain spots are still curly.
Another example: I don’t recommend it. Hair went back to normal even before 4 months (it stated that the Keratin would stay on for 4months). Soft rebonding would be the better choice. I think the KeraStraight was a scam. Even the KeraStraight shampoo/conditioner did no contribution. It was a complete waste of money :/ However it was straight for awhile. But not very long.

Question by Sandra D: Eviction in Sober living Facility?
I asked this before, but no one answered with any detail, and to be frank, I think some were guesses. I would like a legal explanation from someone as to why this is allowed or not allowed.
Basically, I work with someone who lives at a “sober-living facility.” It is very informal, and is sponsored or organized by some local organization, but it’s not like a halfway or rehab facility. This is a place for women to live and support each other, and encourage each other.
Halfway houses are different LEGALLY. I have found nothing to indicate sober living houses are (from a regular informal renting. I do know the woman signed a contract saying she would not use drugs or alcohol. She has not, and has not broken any rules. She is still trying to do everything right, but people are nitpicking her and only her for weird weird stuff.
Can they legally toss her out the moment they decide too? I know it is illegal for anyone but a special eviction person to throw someone out, but usually you have to go through a court process for that. How long will she have to find a new place, if any time? She is legally a tenant because she pays a monthly fee in exchange for possession/usage of a real property, right? Because explain LEGALITY, and why this would differ from any other tenant situation if it does.

There are no universal laws on any subject. In my state, the evictions rules would by the rules for rooming houses and hotels, not the rules for apartments. The eviction process is very simplified in rooming houses.
