You can’t make anyone quit. If AA didn’t work for them it’s because they truly weren’t motivated to quit in the first place. It requires a lot of will power to stop any habit as well as a lot of support. They can get in-patient detox, but if they’re over the age of 18, then they need to willingly do it. Other than that there’s nothing you can force them to do. They have to want to get sober.

In the meantime, you can go to Al-Anon which is for friends/family of alcoholics. Perhaps some therapy. Lastly, to save your own sanity, you may have to cut ties with this person until they can get themselves together.
