Question by kate.: My ex-alcoholic mum is drinking again? I don’t know what to do?
i found out in april this year that my mum is/was an alcoholic. january 2009, she had a fit in the middle of a shopping mall and it happened a few more times. they were investigating the cause when she, one day, randomly began vomiting blood, after that admitted she was an alcoholic. because that was caused by some sort of liver damage.
she was in hospital for ages and the whole thing damaged our relationship and i’ve only just begun to trust her again. for years before now she’s been so different, angry and what not, since giving up drinking it’s like she’s a different person to who i grew up with. and im not ready to let that go
all those incidents have been really hard for me to deal with and i couldnt have it happen to me again, i don’t know how i’d cope. even little things like going out into public with her, it took me so long to be able to do that because i was just so terrified of something happening again, and now it’s like i’m back to square one.
my sister who is 18, has since moved out, so it’s just me and her now.
i’m 16 btw
my dad doesn’t want anything to do with her either
but yeah.. she came into my bedroom and i smelled it almost straight away. she went to bed and i went downstairs, checked in the cupboard and found an empty bottle of wine behind a load of cereal boxes, and a glass that still had a tiny bit left in.
i dont know what to do.. like i said i can’t go through any of that again, i just dont know what to do 🙁

Though the person addicted to alcohol is your mother as you see it effects everyone.
My Dad was an alcoholic. It’s very difficult for them to stop drinking. It’s an illness.
You say she had a fit. I gather you mean seizure. Many people have a seizure
problem, not just alcoholics. Of course it’s hard for you. Can you ask your Dad for
help dealing with this. Maybe you can talk to a therapist or someone who’ll help.
No one can help your mom unless she wants help.
