Question by vilynblackthorne: Have you had a bad or undesirable experience in a 12 Step Group?
i got clean “in the rooms” and by working a program after being around a while I started seeing some really sick things like a lot of 13 stepping (by sponsors too) which no one ever addresses, which made me feel that the true nature and meaning of the program was being obliterated by members self determination, cliquishness. I was turned away from because I spoke from a less than “NA is nirvana” attitude because of the things I witnessed I had to pray thru entire meetings NOT to leave cause my skin would literally crawl and I would become physically nauseated at the hipocrisy in the meetings because of the bigotry and ostricizing towards anyone who spoke their minds When I spoke to other members about how i felt (things like I am saying here) I was told I need to “question my motives” and was generally treated as if there was something wrong with me. were thesepeople afrid their little world was not perfect and could not face the truth?
incidenatlly I am still clean and doing well. I follow a more Buddhist recovery which really is more true to the ORIGINAL 12 step philosophy than the 12 step groups of today are.

can you expand on 13 stepping? I had good results in a 12 step and have never heard of 13 stepping?
